The Dragon Festival is one of the largest Dragon Boat Racing Events in Australia. Previous Festivals have attracted over 2,000 competitors representing National, Sporting, University and Corporate teams from Australia and around the World.

The Festival's aim is to promote multiculturalism and the exciting sport of Dragon Boat Racing. The sport offers great teamwork experience and interaction. These benefits have attracted an increasing number of corporate teams and Festival organisers have coped with this new demand by creating a special corporate challenge category.

The Dragon Festival offers the best Dragon Boat Racing conditions in Australia and arguably the World with the event staged at the Sydney International Regatta Centre at Penrith (approx. 40 minutes from Sydney CBD). This was the rowing site used for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

The reputation of the conditions has attracted National and Sporting Teams from Asia, New Zealand and other overseas countries who participate regularly in this Festival. Each year teams compete to determine who really is the best Dragon Boat Racing team in perfect race conditions. Previous Festival race winners have included Australia's famous Spirit of Sydney team, the CYL mens crew (3rd in the World Championships 1997), the Royal Australian Navy Men's team, the Chinese National crew, Heatherbrae Dragonboat Crew and the Philippine Men's Team.

The Dragon Festival has been recognised as an official Major Event by the Olympic Co-ordination Authority (Sydney International Regatta Centre).

Racing will be conducted in 20-man traditional style wooden boats. Each boat weighs approximately 450kg. Traditional Chinese Drums, Dragon Heads and Tails will be fitted to the boats.

The Festival provides a great weekend experience for the competitors and their families. Markets and live entertainment will provide an unlimited array of sound and sights to meet the diverse range of interests gathered at the Dragon Festival.
